Project: iCount Interactive Map
About
iCount is an organisation that campaigns to ‘Stop Climate Chaos’ and reduce carbon emissions. Users can sign up to a pledge to pressurise politicians to act on Climate Change issues.
Brief
An interactive zooming map of the UK was required to show the location of individuals and organisations that had signed up to the pledge, and further information about them.
Solution
Working with Ellipsis Media, a map was developed in Flash that could zoom in to a high level of magnification and used the Mercator projection algorithm to position user icons. This Flash solution was subsequently found to be unsuitable for the high level of mapping detail required, so Microsoft Virtual Earth was used instead. The Flash version was used as a prototype in the development phase of the iCount website.
